Role of L-proline for the human pathogen H. pylori
Impact of L-proline transport and metabolism on Helicobacter pylori physiology and gastric colonization
Helicobacter pylori is a primary cause of severe gastric disorders. Deletion of genes encoding L-proline transport or metabolizing proteins renders H. pylori incapable of gastric colonization. We attempt to unravel the mechanisms underlying the particular significance of L-proline and L-proline-specific systems for H. pylori physiology and virulence. The project may contribute to the development of new therapeutic strategies against H. pylori infections in cases of resistance to conventional treatment.
